Our Greatest Need
The greatest need in our world, our nation and in the church is Jesus: His Presence, power and peace. The Church was established to present Jesus to all the world, but are we?The answer to our economic woes, growing addictions and overwhelming sense of hopelessness will not come via politicians and empty promises, government programs, or any other well-intentioned philosophy or plan of man. It’s not a top-down, but a bottom-up solution. (Read 2 Chronicles 7:14) It MUST begin with the church on its knees seeking God.We don’t need any more programs. We need to hear God’s program. Jesus said, “Go” but He doesn’t expect us to “go” on our own. To the same ones He told to “go,” He said, “wait for the power….” (See Luke 24:49, Acts 1:1-8) Acts 1:8 “…..ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” Acts 2, the promise is fulfilled and the church expanded immediately.A beautiful illustration is given in John 20. Peter and some of the disciples decided to go fishing. These were expert fishermen. They fished all night and caught nothing. In the morning, the resurrected Jesus calls out from the shore. “Cast your nets on the right side.” I’m sure there must have been some mumbling and grumbling, but they did as commanded and they were not able to draw the net in for the multitude of fishes.I’m sure that these who were called to be fishers of men never forgot this lesson. Fishing without Jesus = empty nets. Fishing with Jesus = nets overflowing. The church’s greatest need is not more programs, but we need Jesus, who already gave us His program. We need His Presence and Power! Be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)Our Nation needs Jesus !Our World needs Jesus! Let’s go fishing!
